GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM MAKES MPA PLAYOFFS!
Our young but scrappy girls varsity basketball team
has made the preliminary play-off round of the MPA Western Maine Class
D Regional Tournament. The NHCS girls, at #8, will play #9-ranked
Seacoast Christian School of South Berwick tomorrow at 1 PM at the
Vinalhaven School gymnasium (because our court is too small for MPA
tournament play). The winner will go on to the Augusta Civic
Center next Tuesday @ 11:30 AM to battle undefeated and #1-ranked
Buckfield in the MPA Regional Quarter Finals. The spectator
boat/bus will depart from Brown’s tomorrow @ 12:15 PM. If
you are interested in riding the bus, please contact Angie at school
(867-4707) Seating is limited; first come, first served.
Please note: because of the basketball playoff game,
the middle and high school ski trip to the Camden Snow Bowl, scheduled
for tomorrow, has been canceled.
HUNGRY? COME TO THE SPAGHETTI SUPPER AT THE GRANGE HALL TONIGHT AT 6 PM TO BENEFIT THE CLASS OF 2010
No need to cook supper tonight or wash the dishes
afterward. Instead, plan to come and enjoy a delicious spaghetti
supper at the Grange Hall, starting at 6 PM, and leave the cooking and
cleaning up to our NHCS sophomores.
Everest Mountaineer Ed Webster To Speak at School and at
Waterman’s Community Center on Wednesday American
mountaineer (and Maine resident) Ed Webster will give two presentations
to NHCS classes during the day on Wednesday, February 13, and then to
the community at WCC on that evening at 7:30 PM. In 1988, Webster
and three companions attempted to scale a new route up the East Face of
Mt. Everest in Tibet without Sherpa support, bottled oxygen, or
radios. They reached the South Summit of Everest, the smallest
climbing team ever to scale a new route on the highest mountain in the
world! An account of Webster’s harrowing Everest climb was
published in Sports Illustrated, entitled Snow in the Kingdom, My Storm
Years on Everest. Mr. Webster’s acclaimed “Everest
Years” autobiography was listed in Outside Magazine as one of the
"Top Ten Mt. Everest Books". This should be a fascinating
evening. Don’t miss it!
