We thought it would be helpful to update the school community on various changes and ongoing projects for the benefit of safety and security. Since August of 2021, NHCS implemented the following:
- Locked front door with intercom system
- Repaired broken windows
- Updated first-aid kits for each classroom, accompanied by additional teacher training
- Updated maps and other information made available to first responders
- Acquisition of key blanks to more effectively control entry to the school
- Rebuild of our entire website, which now includes integration of multiple social networks, and both SMS and voicemail emergency notifications.
What may not seem related to school safety, overall network security is essential. This is why we accelerated the installation of updated hardware and internet access points, as well as creating a network firewall. Our school now maintains private IP addresses and both a closed staff and guest network.
Our work definitely continues as we seek to form a new public safety committee, with the Board's assistance. This committee will determine additional layers to our emergency preparedness, decide on supplemental changes to our physical security infrastructure, and provide greater coordination between the school and first responders.
