Safety Updates

We wanted to provide a few updates to work that is underway with the newly established school safety committee. Here is the full-text of the letter:

On behalf of the newly established Safety Committee, I wanted to provide a few updates on what we've done so far and the work we have ahead. Our priorities in recent weeks have largely been shaped by survey data and additional feedback we've received from staff, students, and community members.

Regarding infrastructure changes, work will be completed this summer on the installation of an emergency response button in the main office and the changing of door handle hardware. This will include an entirely new key control plan, as well as interior doors that will be lockable by key on the outside and a button press on the inside.

We will complete the numbering and labeling of all interior rooms. This will also include placing decals of the corresponding room numbers on the exterior panes of all windows.

We anticipate scheduling some in-person events during the beginning of the school year so that we can bring multiple community partners together. That way, we can share the responsibility of ensuring the safety and well-being of staff, students, and the entire school community. Ultimately, this is a conversation with implications that reach well-beyond the school walls.

We look forward to continuing the dialogue on student safety.
